Travis Japan en exclusiva para KLand México

Travis Japan es una agrupación japonesa formada por 7 miembros: CHAKA, UMI, SHIME, NOEL, SHIZU, GENTA Y MACHU, quienes debutaron en el género J-pop en 2012 tras participar en PLAYZONE’12 SONG & DANC’N II, bajo el sello más importante de Japón: Johnny & Associates.

Su nombre fue elegido como tributo al coreógrafo estadounidense Travis Payne quien ayudó en la formación de la agrupación.

Travis Japan hizo historia al colocar su sencillo “Just Dance!” en el puesto número 5 de la lista de Billboard Global excluyendo Estados Unidos, siendo los primeros artistas japoneses en lograrlo, también participaron en el programa America’s Got Talent donde fueron semifinalistas.

Recientemente, lanzaron “Moving Pieces”, una canción llena de ritmo con una coreografía interesante, la cual fue realizada por Travis Payne y se espera que para el mes de junio liberen un EP que incluye 4 canciones, por lo que estaremos atentos a más detalles.

Travis Japan son los primeros artistas de Johnny & Associates en hacer un debut internacional y, sin duda, su talento los está llevando a tener una gran respuesta de los fans nacionales e internacionales, por esto y más KLand México se acercó a ellos para realizar una Entrevista Exclusiva donde nos cuentan un poco de su trayectoria y su nuevo material, además de qué opinan de México y América Latina.

ENTREVISTA EXCLUSIVA: KLand México X Travis Japan

Primero que nada, gracias por la entrevista. Sabemos que están juntos desde 2012, ¿Cómo se sienten después de trabajar tantos años juntos?

Shizu: Gracias por entrevistarnos. Creo que Travis Japan tiene gente buena en general, no solo sus miembros, sino también nuestros fanáticos, el equipo, etc. Los miembros hemos estado juntos durante mucho tiempo, pero hemos llegado a amarnos más y más, y cada uno de nosotros ha llegado a querer cada vez más a los fanáticos también. Siento que estoy viviendo una vida realmente buena y espero pasar cada día desarrollando mis habilidades y teniendo aún más experiencias.

Noel: Tengo la sensación de que somos un grupo infantil en el buen sentido, que nunca hemos olvidado nuestro niño interior (chiquillos, juguetones), y en lugar de renunciar a lo que queremos hacer o tomar, siempre valoramos la sensación de intentarlo desesperadamente y hacerlo porque queremos hacerlo. Chicos, ¡sean ambiciosos!

First of all, it’s a pleasure to interview you, we know that you were formed in 2012, how do you feel as a group after working together for so many years?

Shizu: Thank you for interviewing us. I think Travis Japan has got really good people, not just its members, but our fans, our team, etc. The members have been around for a long time, but we have grown to love one another more and more, and each member has grown to love the fans more and more as well. I feel that I am living a really good life, and I hope to spend every day developing my skills and having even more experiences.

Noel: I feel that we are a childish group in a good way, who have never forgotten their childhood spirit (boyishness, playfulness), and instead of giving up on what we want to do or grasp, we always value the feeling of desperately trying and doing it because we want to do it. Boys be ambitious!

El 2022 fue un año muy importante para ustedes. Participaron en varios programas de concurso como America’s Got Talent, ¿qué experiencia les dejó participar en un programa como este?

G: Estoy agradecido de haber podido participar en el programa y sí, sin duda ha sido un año importante para Travis Japan. Hubo personas que conocimos, público, personal y conexiones en todos los países que no podríamos conocer sin estar allí en ese momento. Por supuesto, los resultados son importantes, y fue un año que llamó la atención. Pero sentimos que todos conseguimos varios trofeos intangibles/metafóricos que atesoraremos de por vida, como el tiempo de práctica, cosas importantes que no podemos ver o tenemos que seguir protegiendo, la actitud de seguir adelante, experiencias emocionales, etc.
Fue un gran año tanto para Johnny’s en su conjunto como para todos nosotros individualmente. Pudimos asumir el desafío como grupo, así que estoy agradecido y honrado.

Noel: Fue un año importante, con grandes recuerdos que nos demuestran lo que podemos lograr.

Shizu: Es una buena experiencia poder recibir comentarios y puntos en un torneo como ese, y poder ver lo que teníamos que hacer para mejorar. Cuando regrese a Japón, volví a sentirme feliz de que me evaluaran o me señalaran las cosas de buena manera.

Chaka: Éramos nosotros los que estábamos allí, pero pudimos ver las reacciones de varias personas que vieron la retransmisión. Estaban encantados a pesar de que estábamos divididos entre Japón y Los Ángeles. Fue una gran experiencia porque sentíamos que no estábamos solos en ese momento.

2022 was an important year for you, you participated in various competitions including America Got Talent. What was your experience of participating in this important program?

G: I’m grateful to have been able to perform on the program, and it’s certainly been an important year for Travis Japan. There were people we met, audiences, staff, and connections in every country that we couldn’t meet without being there at the time. Of course, the results are important, and it was a year that attracted attention. But we felt that we all got various metaphorical trophies that we will cherish for life, including practice time, important things that we can’t see or have to keep protecting, the attitude to attack more and more, emotional experiences, etc. It was a very big year both for Johnny’s as a whole and us as individuals. We were able to take on the challenge as a group, so I am grateful and honored.

Noel: It was an important year with many good memories that show what we can achieve.

Shizu: It’s a good experience to be able to get comments and points at a tournament like that, and to be able to see what we needed to do to improve. When I came back to Japan, I felt happy again about being evaluated or pointed out things in a good way.

Chaka: That was us who were there, but we could see the reactions of various people who watched through the broadcast. They were delighted even though we were split between Japan and Los Angeles. It was a great experience as we felt we were not alone at that moment.

Están a punto de lanzar una nueva canción, Moving Pieces, donde hay grandes estrellas detrás. ¿Qué podemos esperar de este nuevo material?

Machu: No es como JUST DANCE!, que era enérgica y tan alegre, agradable al oído, divertida y fácil de entrar en ritmo. “Moving Pieces” es todo lo contrario. Siento que es genial y emotivo, encarna el potencial y la amplitud de Travis Japan.

Machu: Quiero que la gente hable de eso. Quiero que sea una fuente de rumores sobre Travis Japan.

Noel: Probablemente sea un éxito hasta cierto punto, independientemente de quién lo cante. Pero, debido a que Travis Japan la canta con la letra «Travis Japan» y Travis Payne la coreografío, puede ser un éxito mayor para nosotros como grupo.

You are about to release a new song, Moving Pieces, where great stars are behind it. What can we expect from this material?

Machu: It’s not like JUST DANCE!, which was so energetic and upbeat. Poppy and fun and easy to get into the rhythm. “Moving Pieces” is the opposite. I feel like this is cool and emotional, it embodies the potential and breadth of Travis Japan.

Machu: I want people to talk about it. I want it to be a source of Travis Japan buzz.

Noel: It’s probably a hit to some extent no matter who sings it, but because Travis Japan sings it with the lyrics “Travis Japan,” and Travis Payne choreographed it, it can be a bigger hit for us as Travis Japan.

Finalmente, la pregunta que toda Latinoamérica se ha de hacer, ¿les gustaría venir a algún país latinoamericano? ¿México, por ejemplo?

Umi: En verdad quiero ir a Latinoamérica. Experimentamos el ambiente latino, y en los Estados Unidos escuchamos mucha música latina y en español, así que queremos sentir esa cultura un poco más. Quiero conocerlos y compartirlo con la gente en Japón. Queremos que la gente en México y muchos otros lugares conozcan la cultura japonesa y nuestras nuevas canciones japonesas. Así que nos gustaría ir allí si tenemos la oportunidad.

Chaka: Quiero absorber la energía latina.

Machu: Hay muchas canciones en español que no son conocidas en Japón, así que cuando las escuchamos, comenzamos a bailarlas

G: Quiero tomar clases de baile con ritmos latinos.

Umi: El género es más que funk, es como jazz, funk y algunos increíbles sonidos.

Shizu: Samba. Tango. Salsa…

G: Mis caderas se mueven solo de pensarlo.

Shime: Personalmente, quiero bailar música latina. Creo que es genial, cuando veo videos de gente bailando en YouTube.

Chaka: Sería interesante tener una versión en español de Moving Pieces.

Shime: ¡Por favor, invítennos a México!

And finally, the question that every Latin American fan wants to know is, would you like to perform in any Latin American country, Mexico maybe?

Umi: I really want to go to Latin America. We experienced the Latin atmosphere, and in the United States we heard a lot of Latin music and Spanish, so we want to feel that culture some more. I want to feel it and share it with people in Japan. We want people in Mexico and many other places to know about Japanese culture and our new Japanese songs, so we would like to go there if we have the chance.

Chaka: I want to absorb the Latin vibe.

Machu: There are many Spanish songs that are not known in Japan, so when we hear them, we will suddenly start to dance.

G: I want to take Latin dance lessons.

Umi: The genre is more than funk, it’s like jazz, and funk and some really incredible sounds.

Shizu: Samba. Tango. Salsa.

G: My hips start moving just thinking about it.

Shime: Personally, I want to dance to Latin music. I thought it was cool when I watched videos of people dancing on YouTube.

Chaka: It would be interesting to have a Spanish version of Moving Pieces.
